Traditional techniques of bamboo woodworking and contemporary design give rise to the wide variety of bamboo fences, building materials, craft items and other products suited to various applications. In today’s world characterized by diverse lifestyles, customers want products that will bring them comfort and peace of mind in addition to functionality. TAKEMATA strives to offer a wide range of lifestyle options through their bamboo products.
Products made using the famously high-quality Kyoto bamboo are certified as traditional craft products by Kyoto Prefecture under the name “Kyo-meichiku” (Genuine Kyoto Bamboo). The high degree of perfection in the base materials is what transforms the inherent beauty of bamboo into traditional craft products.
Bamboo developed deep ties with Kyoto, a city blessed with an ideal climate and natural features as well as a rich cultural heritage. Past eras have seen the creation of outstanding bamboo products and new bamboo processing techniques, which have been preserved and passed down from generation to generation to this very day.
About The Company
About TAKEMATA NAKAGAWA TAKEZAITEN
In 1688, Takeya Matashiro established a bamboo shop under the name TAKEMATA. Since that time, the company has been manufacturing bamboo products for home and garden design: fences and decorative screens; bamboo building materials and interior design crafts; tea ceremony items and bamboo furniture. In addition, the company offers its guests to take part in bamboo-crafting workshops and hands-on events.
The core of the company is made of the continuous dedication to fulfill customer’s wishes to the fullest extent possible and carefully preserved traditional techniques handed down from generation to generation for more than 300 years. TAKEMATA has pursued the design, production and installation of everything from daily-use items and accessories to bamboo garden design elements.
