A FAMILY MATTER
The family’s involvement in the world of wine began in 1856 when Hermann Sichel, then aged 65, set up a wine merchant business in Germany. In 1883, Sichel decided to move to Bordeaux. At that time, the company was an acquisitions bureau which procured wines for the Sichel companies in Mainz, London and New York.
Ever since it was set up as a buying office in Bordeaux in 1883, Maison Sichel has remained, first and foremost, a family business. Since that time, seven generations of the Sichel family have succeeded one another at the company’s helm, developing the company while remaining faithful the philosophy of their ancestors’.
Over the years, it has flourished to a trully international dimension.
UNITING TRADITION & INNOVATION
Maison Sichel remains successful thanks to six basic precepts:
- A company with human dimensions which is capable of being reactive and flexible.
- Continuous inspection at every step
in the winemaking process to guarantee
the origin and quality of its wines. - A physical presence in its markets so as to be close to its customers, know consumers and be able to offer them high-quality products tailored to their tastes.
- Proactive, reliable and swift service in response to customer needs.
- A long-term perspective based on the family.
- A conscious policy of sustainable development.
THE SICHEL VINEYARDS
Maison Sichel owns 5 different vineyards in the Bordeaux wine region: Châteaux Angludet, Palmer, Argadens, Daviaud, and Trillol. The Sichel estates produce quality wines including red Margaux wines and Bordeaux red and white wines.
Château Palmer, one of the flagship estates of the Médoc today, was purchased in 1938 and necessited large-scale works for its restauration at the time. For 65 years, the family made continuous, sustained investment in the Château, in the quest for greater quality, and it is this which has helped to build its reputation.
Maison Sichel alos has a longstanding partnership with a number of Grands Crus Classés (classed growths) and takes an active role in the marketing of more than 150 of the most famous Bordeaux châteaux.
A simple acquisitions office at first, then a fully-fledged wine trading company which gradually became involved in production, Maison Sichel has seized every opportunity to expand its field of competency and action. The company has undergone dramatic transformation over the past 50 years, with the purchase of a winemaking facility, construction of a bottling plant, acquisition of three estates as well as a négociant vinificateur, and construction of a safe for Grands Crus.
Today, Maison Sichel sells its products in more than 50 countries all over the world. Ever since 1883, the company has built up a sound distribution network in collaboration with over 70 sales representatives based in France and abroad.
