SHINTO TOWEL is a towel manufacturer in Izumisano-shi, countryside city in Osaka, where Japanese towel manufacturing industry has originated in 1887. The company has been manufacturing high-quality towels there since 1907. In 2017 with their craftsmanship based on over-one-century history and very high functionality from the traditional refining process, a new factory brand “SHINTO TOWEL” was founded.
historical knowledge and technical expertise

SHINTO TOWEL tries to fully utilize their historical knowledge and technical expertise, and be unafraid of new ideas in technology and design. They are always reviewing materials, function, and design in the pursuit of better products. From the aspect of global environmental care and sustainable future, they have changed the material from ordinary cotton to organic cotton since July 2020.
The true originality of SHINTO TOWEL is the craftsmanship and the routine of their artisans cultivated by their history of experiences that manage to maintain and keep the half-century old looms still active to create something new and unique.
Superior absorbency & luxurious softness

Towels are traditionally woven with starched fibres, as this increases durability, but the starch repels water and thus affects absorbency. By washing and refining after weaving, the starch, natural oils and other impurities in the cotton fibre will be removed, allowing better absorbency while preserving its fluffy texture. This regional and traditional refining process is called “Atozarashi” – post-weave refining method.
2.5-PLY GAUZE & YUKINE

2.5-PLY GAUZE is a lighter, softer and quick to dry, and still highly absorbent towel. SHINTO TOWEL took the middle layer of the traditional 20-count 3-ply gauze and replaced it with a 1/2-weight weave. They also utilize an irregular weave to produce a unique, exquisitely soft texture.
For YUKINE, the creators spend twice the effort on the Atozarashi process, maximizing the natural absorbency of cotton to its highest potential. The clean, refined cotton fibres rubbing against each other produce the characteristic squeaky feeling. YUKINE is made with designs reminiscent of earth, water or fresh greens peeking out from beneath fallen snow, and pure white reminding you of a landscape all covered with white snow.
Inner pile - reinvention of the classic towel

INNER PILE is a towel combining the best of gauze and pile. Traditional shuttle looms are expertly operated by hand, taking time and care to produce the INNER PILE. This towel has two outer layers of baby-soft gauze with an inner layer of highly absorbent pile. Use it after bathing or washing, to cover your pillow or as a blanket—thick and fluffy yet soft and light, this is the reinvention of the classic towel.
