Product DNA
An ultimate survival tool
LifeStraw® Steel holds its concept from the original LifeStraw® personal water filter. It has two stages of filtration : first, the activated carbon capsule reduces bad odor and taste, chlorine and organic chemical matter. Then, the hollow fiber membrane removes 99.9999% of bacteria and 99.9% of protozoa. This powerful gear is independently lab tested, durable and BPA-free.
Easy to use and hygenic
LifeStraw Steel allows you to filter water quickly and easily. All you have to do is uncap both ends of the tube and put the LifeStraw® Steel Vertically half way into the water, take a few sips, and finally blow the water back out through the LifeStraw to keep the filter clean and remove trapped air.
The product requires no batteries or replacement parts, and filters at least 1,000 liters of water over its lifetime.
Perfect for hiking, travelling and camping
LifeStraw Steel can be used to drink directly from an open body of water, like a river or a lake, or a container, like a bottle or a glass. Its durable and slender design is perfect for areas where water may be unsafe to drink due to contamination by chlorine, bacteria or parasites.

History
Vestergaard and LifeStraw’s beginnings
Vestergaard is an innovative leader in the global war against diseases, especially those impacting vulnerable populations around the world. Vestergaard’s game-changing solutions contribute to a healthier, more sustainable planet. Vestergaard operates according to a humanitarian entrepreneurship business model, whereby doing good is good business. Following this model, the company devotes its entire innovative platform towards producing breakthrough products and solutions for disadvantaged people.
In 1994, Vestegaard begins working with The Carter Center, creating a simple mesh filter to remove Guinea worms from drinking water. In 2005, the award-winning portable LifeStraw® personal water filter evolves from the Guinea worm filter. It transforms dirty water into safe drinking water.
In 2011, the LifeStraw® Carbon for Water campaign uses carbon financing to provide 4 million people in Kenya with sustainable access to safe drinking water.
Two years later, LifeStraw® Go, a refillable water bottle incorporating LifeStraw® technology, is introduced as the first LifeStraw product targeting the outdoor consumer market in developed countries.
In 2017, LifeStraw® Play for Kids, LifeStraw® Universal and LifeStraw Flex® lead LifeStraw’s entry into the mainstream consumer athleisure market.
Since 2020, Vestergaard and LifeStraw grow into two companies connected by the same humanitarian entrepreneurship DNA.
